The backlog of veterans? claims for benefits and compensation at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has consistently garnered the attention of Congress and the news media. In recent years, with troops returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, the number of pending claims at the VA has grown. There are backlogs for making determinations on initial claims and for resolving claims that are on appeal with the Board of Veterans? Appeals (BVA).
